Just check with your doctor if you will be using them with a condom because some natural and homemade lubricants can contain ingredients that can interfere with the safe use of condoms.
And if your goal this Valentine’s Day is to conceive a child, it is even more important to avoid conventional lubricants, which may contain toxins that can lead to developmental and reproductive toxicity. A baby is most vulnerable to the effects of toxic chemicals during those first few weeks of pregnancy, before you even know if you are pregnant!
In fact, most lubricants, natural or not, can interfere with your ability to conceive a child. Some lubricants can contain ingredients that are toxic to sperm. And the lubricant doesn’t have to contain spermicide in order to destroy sperm. Even all-natural lubricants, whether store-bought or homemade, can interfere with the ability of sperm to reach the cervical mucus.
If you want to go even greener in the bedroom, you can now find phthalate- and plastic-free toys made out of materials such as wood, stainless steel and glass. Lambskin condoms are made from natural membranes and are completely biodegradable (but they do not protect against STDs).
